Horseback Riding Holiday in Costa Rica- 2 Day Tour

Two days and two nights of exploring Monteverde and region by horseback will take you through diverse landscapes and give you a real feel for the area, its culture and day to day Costa Rican life. Your host throughout will be our own Marvin Anchia who grew up in the area and has spent his life living and working with horses in this beautiful region. Marvin’s well trained horses are the perfect ambassadors to a part of Costa Rica centered around traditional values and the farming or coffee, sugar and bananas.

Day 1 – Introduction to the area

Beginning at 2:30 pm Marvin will lead you on a three hour tour along quiet back roads to show you the area and explain a bit about rural life in this part of Costa Rica. You’ll see plantation crops, everyday people hard at work, some wildlife if you’re lucky and, of course, the spectacular views that act as a backdrop to it all. As you  are horseback riding, feel free to ask Marvin any questions you have; his knowledge of the area and his horses is encyclopedic and he loves sharing information.

After your ride you’ll be taken to the nearby Hotel Miramontes or Hotel Rustic Lodge; your accommodation for the night. Breakfast only is included.

Day 2 – Our popular all day cowboy ride

Horse Trek Monteverde is situated in the lush Costa Rican countryside and a small river runs nearby. On today’s ride Marvin will lead you down along the river where you’ll be shaded by thick tropical forest as you ride. Monkeys will warn each other of your presence, butterflies will catch pieces of dappled sunlight and birds can be spotted throughout the forests canopy layers. Mid-day will bring you to a clearing along the river bank where you can enjoy the lunch Marvin has brought, and if you like, a swim in the cool clear waters of the river. Once the horses have rested, you’ll ride on through more varied terrain to your final destination at Cabinas Belcruz.

Cabinas Belcruz is another locally owned accommodation provider; this time in the style of a bed and breakfast. The sprawling ranch house looks out over the valley below and the gardens have been specifically designed to attract hummingbirds. Your hosts will provide you with a home cooked meal and you’re welcome to explore until it’s time to retire for the night.

The next morning you’ll be treated to a fantastic breakfast before being returned to Monteverde where you can continue your explorations of Costa Rica.

Suitable for: Riders aged 10 and up. The second day of riding is around 5 hours total in the saddle so riders with some experience will find it more enjoyable.
